Your paid subscriptions do more than support my travel, document digging and long hours in courtrooms: They help ensure important trials and other legal affairs in Southern California and national cases involving celebrities receive the best coverage possible. Your money not only supports me, it supports the future of quality journalism about our judiciary.
Some of my best work will be available only to paid subscribers as a way to thank everyone who is helping build a sustainable model for my independent, courtroom-based journalism in Southern California. Paid subscribers will have access to all court documents cited in my work.

I am proud to say I was profiled by The Washington Post, which called me “arguably the most influential legal journalist working today.”
The article discusses my transition to independent journalism, which is greatly dependent on support from people like you through paid subscriptions to my mailing list and monthly donations on Patreon.
The rise of ‘Meghann Thee Reporter,’ the Internet’s favorite court insider”
Who am I and why should you read me?
I am a longtime journalist with extensive experience reporting on trials and legal affairs. After graduating from the University of Oregon, I worked at The Spokesman-Review in Spokane, Washington, and the Idaho Statesman in Boise, Idaho, before moving to California in 2013 to work at the Orange County Register.
I spent three years at the Register before joining the Los Angeles Daily Journal, a legal newspaper in California that gave me an inside look at litigation and introduced me to lawyers and judges I stay in touch with to this day. My four years at the Daily Journal led me to ALM/Law.com, then Law & Crime News and now, my own independent publishing operation through this website.
My reporting has led to appearances on radio and television shows, including CBS’ 48 Hours, Oxygen Channel’s Snapped: Killer Couples and Investigation Discovery’s Unusual Suspects. I helped pioneer the use of Twitter to cover trials live from the courthouse while reporting on a federal death penalty trial in Boise, Idaho, in 2008. Thirteen years later, my Twitter coverage of federal court hearings about a lawsuit over Los Angeles’ homelessness crisis earned first place for “best use of social media by an independent journalist” at the 2021 Los Angeles Press Club Southern California Journalism Awards.
My other recent recognitions includes first place for “best pandemic news story” at the 2021 Orange County Press Club Awards for a Los Angeles Times Community News freelance article about the safety of jury trials during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In December 2022, my coverage of rapper Tory Lanez’s trial for the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion earned widespread attention, including a profile from BET and an appearance on Fox 2 Detroit’s The Noon. GQ and The 19th News also featured me after my coverage of Lanez’s sentencing in August 2023 gained national attention. And along with the Post profile, I’ve been featured on KCRW’s “All Things Considered,” the hip-hop websites XXL and HotNewHipHop.com and on the wildly popular YouTube channels No Jumper and DJ Vlad.
